Forest Walks
This Old Tree Consulting offers scheduled Forest Walks in the beautiful woodlands of Rhode Island and also the Outer Cape. They are guided hikes that focus on learning native tree and plant identification, understanding forest ecology, and exploring the unique landscapes all around us.
Guide Doug Still is a Cape Cod native but now a resident of Providence, RI. He was formerly the Providence City Forester. Doug has an MS in Forest Resources from Penn State University and 27 years of experience creating tree canopy and teaching tree identification to various audiences. He is also an avid hiker, and has come to appreciate the unique ecology and beauty of New England forests.
Guide Greg Gerritt is a long time environmental activist and nature lover. A Forestry school dropout, Greg developed his extensive knowledge living in the woods of Maine for a number of years. Since moving to Rhode Island 27 years ago, he has become a leading environmental voice on policy as well as a nature observer and videographer responsible for starting the RI Nature Video Festival. As the Watershed Steward for the Friends of the Moshassuck River, Greg has led nature walks for the North Burial Ground, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, and the Blackstone Parks Conservancy.
Limit 15 people per walk. A $15 donation for adults is appreciated but not necessary. To check availability or make a reservation, email Doug here. For regular updates, you can also request to be added to the email list. To follow on Facebook, see @outermostforestwalks or @RIForestWalks.
Looking for a group activity for your organization or circle of friends? Private guided walks are also offered, depending on availability. Email Doug here to discuss dates and group rates.
